Mr. Elbow
Pain in the elbow can be due to inflammation, wear and tear (arthritis), compression of tendons, overexertion/inflammation of muscle attachments (e.g. tennis elbow) or other diseases. Elbow problems can in some cases limit daily activities.
Symptoms may include severe pain with or without intense radiating pain from the elbow up the arm or down towards the forearm. It leads to a limited ability to move, which can result in a reduction in work ability in professions with heavy lifting and physical activity.
With mr elbow scanning, one can in most cases detect inflammatory processes in joints, muscles and larger nerve pathways with the greatest chance. The doctor in charge can quickly and clearly map after a regular examination whether there is an injury or other abnormality that could be the cause of your symptoms.
In an MR examination, magnetic fields and radio waves are used to produce images of the body's various organs without using X-rays. If you have been in pain for a long time, it may be necessary to investigate the cause of the pain, but also perhaps to eliminate other causes. As the magnetic camera does not use X-rays, this is a safe examination with scientific support.
What can be discovered with an MRI examination?
With mr elbow examination, one can see, among other things, inflammation, wear and tear (arthritis), entrapment of tendons, deep lipomas, overexertion/inflammation in muscle attachments (e.g. tennis elbow) or other diseases.
This is how the MRI examination works
After a booked time for the examination, the patient is allowed to lie on a narrow bed that is brought into the magnetic camera. The space is like a long and narrow tunnel, about 2 meters long and 60-70 centimeters in diameter, open at both ends. To reduce the sound from the device, you may use headphones. During the examination, the patient is required to lie completely still, but discomfort and anxiety can lead to the patient moving, which in some cases can lead to poorer quality of the images.
Examination of children
MRI is a harmless examination, which makes it optimal and safe even for small children. When examining the elbow, the healthy elbow of growing children is also examined, this is to have a healthy elbow to compare with. When examining children, you should think about preparing the child as it may feel unpleasant to have to lie in the magnetic camera tunnel alone for an extended period of time. Children up to the age of six usually need to receive sedatives because the child should lie still during the examination. Some images may need to be retaken several times if the patient does not lie still during the examination.
Magnetic metal
If magnetic metal has been implanted, such as a pacemaker, it is not possible to do an MRI, then doctors usually recommend other methods instead. The fact that other methods are recommended has to do with the fact that magnetic X-rays attract magnetic metal and that it is difficult to get detailed images as the magnetic metal interferes with the recording. Metallic objects are usually allowed to be removed before the examination, examples of these are jewellery, keys, colored contact lenses and similar products.
Results of examination
After your magnetic camera examination of the elbow, your scan is first reviewed by an X-ray specialist, then Magnetlabbet's doctor analyzes and compiles the results in an individual written report that you receive within 7 working days after your completed examination. The total examination time is between approx. 30-60 minutes and only in rare cases longer than that. You will also receive a USB stick from your MRI examination with you many times, if you have requested it well in advance.
