Why magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen?
Since the abdomen includes several different organs, it is not uncommon for pain in the stomach to occur. MR Abdomen examines the kidneys, spleen, liver, gall bladder, bile ducts, bladder, ureters and pancreas.

Preparations
If you have metal splinters, a pacemaker, an insulin pump or other electronic equipment in your body, you cannot be examined with a magnetic camera. Metal that is not magnetic, on the other hand, does not pose an obstacle for magnetic camera examination. Do not forget that you must fast 4 hours before the examination and drink only water.
How does it happen?
A magnetic camera looks like a tunnel with two openings on each side. During the examination itself, you lie still on a bed that is brought into a tunnel that is about 2 meters long. The image taking itself produces sound, which is why hearing protection is offered. The magnetic camera takes several series of images during the examination, up to hundreds, in order to e.g. be able to image organs and tissues. The examination usually takes between 30-35 minutes and if you are worried there are usually sedatives available. After a completed examination, you can almost always leave the clinic and return to your everyday life.

Why do I need an MRI scan?
An MRI scan allows medical professionals to study the inside of your body and provide diagnoses and treatment plans where needed.
How long does it take to receive results from private MRI examinations?
After your MRI scan, a radiologist will examine your images and compile a report of his findings.
The radiologist will then send your results to our clinical team, which can take up to a week. They will check your results and email you a copy.
If anything negative is noted on your report, your doctor will give a call after the scan to explain the results and next steps.
How is an MRI scan performed?
MRI examinations are performed by radiographers, who are highly trained specialists. They will explain the procedure beforehand, but will leave the room and talk to you via headphones during the scan. The scanner is noisy, so you will usually be able to listen to music to help you relax.
You will need to lie very still on a motorized flat bed, which moves in and out of the scanner. MRI examinations take between 15-90 minutes, depending on the area being scanned. Some scans require contrast material to create more defined images.
How do I prepare for an MRI scan?
MRI examinations are safe and non-invasive, and preparation is minimal. We will notify you in advance if you need to do anything special, such as avoid eating or drinking beforehand. You may also need to complete a medical history and consent form at your scan centre.
The scanner's strong magnets can interact with metal objects, so we recommend wearing soft, comfortable clothing without metal fasteners. You will be asked to remove glasses, belts, watches, jewellery, dentures and hearing aids. You may be asked to change into a medical gown.
